Day 2, Nice, Villa Kerylos & Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

Following a leisurely breakfast, you will be met in the lobby of your accommodation by our local expert to visit two remarkable villas on the French Riviera. First depart along the Mediterranean coast via a sweeping road to Beaulieu sur Mer and the villa Kerylos. Meaning "sea swallow," the villa is an exact replica of one that stood upon the island of Delos in Greece in the 2nd century BC.

On a site reminiscent of the Aegean shores, this faithful reproduction of a Greek villa of ancient times was built in 1902 by and for an archaeologist, Théodore Reinach. Original pieces stand among copies and reproductions of furniture and frescoes. All the windows overlook the sea with views of the Baie des Fourmis, Cap Ferrat, Èze and Cap d'Ail. A Gallery of Ancients containing famous statues has been created in the basement.

From the villa Kerylos depart to Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, a rugged promontory boasting many palatial estates and the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. The villa houses the "Ile de France" museum - a priceless collection the Baroness Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild assembled throughout her life. Inspired by the great Renaissance residences of Venice and Florence, the villa contains an exceptional collection of porcelains, furniture, carpets, tapestries, and canvases. After a guided visit through the rooms and exhibits displayed within the apartments of Madame de Ephrussi, you may stroll the French, Spanish, Florentine and Japanese gardens surrounding the villa
